Logging In

You'll see two ways to sign in — pick whichever fits your household:

• Email link — enter your email and we'll send you a link. No password to remember.
• Password — set a password once. This is the better option if more than one person in your household will use the app: everyone signs in with the same email and password, and every edit shows up for everyone, since it's the same underlying data.

Setting Up Your Locations

Locations are the places you track inventory — Fridge, Freezer, Pantry, Cabinets, Garage Freezer, and so on. Every household starts with its own list, and you can add more any time from a location dropdown ("+ Add new location…"). Each device you use has its own default location, shown at the top of the Capture screen — items you log from that device land there unless you say a different one out loud.

Logging an Update

Press and hold the mic, say your update, and release. A few real examples:

• "Add two bags of sugar"
• "Used the last of the peanut butter" — sets it to zero
• "Took two, leaving three cans of beans" — sets the total to 3, not -2
• "Add three cans of beans to the fridge" — overrides the default location just for that entry

Got several things to log at once? Tap the mic instead of holding it — this switches to a running list where each pause you take starts a new item, so you can rattle off "two bags sugar… one jar honey… three cans beans…" and review or fix each one before saving.

The four actions, whichever way you log:

• Added — increases the count (bought more, restocked)
• Removed — decreases the count (used some, threw something out)
• Updated — sets the exact count, replacing whatever was tracked before
• Grocery List — adds something to your Shopping List without touching inventory counts

Photo Import

On the running-list (bulk) screen, tap Load from photo to add items from a picture instead of your voice — take a fresh photo or choose one from your library. Pantry Scout reads the image and adds what it recognizes to your review list, the same way voice-logged items appear, so you can fix anything before saving.

Meal Suggestions

The Meals tab gives quick meal ideas — not full recipes — based on what's actually in your inventory right now. Tap Suggest Meals for general ideas, or tap the Meal ideas → link next to an expiring item on your Inventory tab for suggestions built specifically around that ingredient.

Shopping List

Items land on your Shopping List two ways: you asked for it directly ("add tomatoes to the shopping list"), or you ran out of something and it hit zero in Inventory automatically. Tap an item once you've bought it to clear it from the list.

Troubleshooting

The mic isn't picking up my voice. Check that Pantry Scout has microphone permission: on iPhone, Settings → Pantry Scout → make sure Microphone (and Speech Recognition, if listed) is turned on; on Android, Settings → Apps → Pantry Scout → Permissions → Microphone. If you denied this the first time you used the app, this is the fix.

The camera won't open, or only shows my photo library. Same idea — check that Camera permission is turned on for Pantry Scout in your phone's Settings.

My changes aren't showing up on another device. Pantry Scout needs an internet connection to sync — check that the device is online, then pull down to refresh on the Inventory tab.

I can't remember my password. Use the Email link option on the sign-in screen instead — you don't need your password to get back in that way.
